Project 2027

Ed describes the events that led MiniScribe to ship bricks, why the company did it, and what he learned as an employee.

Ed has thirty years of management experience at eight companies including three technology startups. Ed’s management philosophy is over-deliver for customers, employees, and investors.

​​At Exabyte, Ed built a manufacturing engineering organization by hiring twenty-five engineers and technicians, which helped Exabyte become the third fastest growing company in America according to Fortune magazine.​​

At Hewlett Packard (HP), Ed led a startup inside the scanner business that delivered over $300 million in revenue at 15 percent profit per year. HP’s scanner business won HP’s President’s Quality Award. He also led HP’s digital camera business that quadrupled revenue, making digital cameras HP’s fastest growing business. Along the way, Ed was promoted to vice president and general manager.

Early in his career, Ed worked for MiniScribe as a senior engineer. Unbeknown to him, MiniScribe repeatedly committed fraud and was finally caught after the company accidently shipped bricks instead of disk drives.

​​Ed then taught Business Ethics at Colorado State University’s (CSU) College of Business. He also delivered guest lectures at CSU’s College of Business and College of Engineering.​

Ed earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research / Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.​​
